Welcome to the Gladstone Historical Society

Our society is dedicated to the research, documentation, preservation, enjoyment, and public enrichment of the history and heritage of Gladstone, Oregon and the surrounding local area.

The society holds regular monthly meetings that include the business of the society and historically themed programs or discussions.

Throughout the year, the society also plans various projects and activities of particular historical interest. The society participates in the city's summer celebration of Chautauqua, during which members create historical displays  and answer local history questions.

Since 1992, the society has been actively engaged in the publication of  books that relate the history of Gladstone.   Currently the society contributes to the City of Gladstone's monthly newsletter with a short stories of life in early Gladstone.
 

​All of the society's functions are open to the general public. Our current happenings are announced regularly in the Gladstone City Newsletter  and on our website Meeting page.

From 1894-1927, Gladstone, Oregon was the site of the 3rd. largest permanent Chautauqua in the United States.  Enjoy over 40 historical photos that tell the story of what happened, who came, and how the small town of Gladstone, Oregon came to national acclaim.  
Everyone is invited to view this historical photo slide show presented by the Gladstone Historical Society in the entry of the Gladstone Civic Center. ​
