Chautauqua Bell - pictured in bell tower in front of the 1927 Dining Hall.

Foreground: Chautauqua Bell.  Located in the northeast corner of Headquarters Row in Gladstone Park (Chautauqua Grounds), the bell rang for meetings, events, meals, fires, etc.

In 1962, the bell tower fell during the Columbus Day Storm, which also toppled a huge number of the old growth fir trees that were a prominent feature of the Gladstone Park landscape. After the storm,  the bell was retired and is now privately owned.

Background: Front entrance of the new Dining Hall (1927) that replaced the open-air restaurant that served meals to Chautauqua attendees.
